Grandpa Diary #109 Elise is One!

Elise

Dear Elise,

Happy Birthday to you! I am excited that you are one years old today. When you came over this morning you did your normal routine. You find me wherever I am whether it is in the office, my bedroom, even the bathroom! Then you grab my leg and start making funny noises.

You have had such a full year. You are learning to handle the rough stuff from your sister, but your mommy and daddy protect you from too much. Kaylee loves you so much and she smiles and laughs every time she looks at you. Actually, you make everybody smile and laugh!

I wanted one  picture of you and me when you were one, so when Nana came to church to visit, I asked her to take this picture. My favorite time of quiet when I am holding you close. I love you so much and am so happy to be your grandpa. We have many adventures waiting for us…

Love,

Grandpa

Grandpa Diary #107

Dear Kaylee,

When we go to the zoo, you always tell me you don’t like snakes and lizards, but you want to see them anyway and on Friday, you petted a snake again. But, when it comes time to brush the goats and see the Shetland pony, you remember you put your hand through the fence by the pony and he nipped at you. So, now you decide to tell me why you are going to see the pony again.

It’s interesting that you use a new phrase when you are telling me why you are not afraid. Normally you say, “I’m not afraid because God protects me.”

This time it is different.

“I’m not afraid because God saves me.”

I’m glad you are coming more and more into a deeper relationship with God who adores you, protects you, and yes, saves you.

O, by the way…the name of Jesus in the Hebrew language that he used for prayer is- “Yeshua.”

This means “God saves!”  Yeshua….Jesus…we are not afraid….

Love,

Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

Well, mommy is off for summer now, so Friday was our last Grandpa Day for awhile. We will still do stuff together, but not our normal routine.

Our last zoo trip was memorable because you decided to face two of your fears head on! You pet a snake and a skink! A skink looks like a lizard with two heads. The zoo volunteers were giving these hands-on experiences and you decided to take advantage of this without Grandpa spurring you on.

Then, since this was a special day,  you had your face painted with a tiger motif. To top it all off, Grandpa got stung in the thumb but a bee…

What a day!

Love,

Grandpa

Dear Elise,

It was so much fun to be with you at a time I didn’t know you would be there. Uncle David and I went to see your Uncle Matt play lacrosse at his high school. Grandma was there with Aunt Kelly and Sam, Aunt Kim, and then, what a surprise, you and your sister with your mommy and daddy!

It was a real kick seeing you getting passed around like a little package to everyone who was there in the stands. Then, when it was my turn, I was really excited to hold you because I didn’t bring a jacket and you were my mini-warmer!

Love,

Grandpa

Dear Kaylee and Elise,

Nana and I get to take care of you on different days and we love it. You both bring so much joy in different ways.

Elise, this is the time where you are learning to smile. Just last week, you smiled at me for the first time when I walked up to you. I didn’t even have to get the ball rolling with my sing song Grandpa talk!

Kaylee and the Komono

Kaylee, the zoo is becoming a regular place for us. We have down our routine about seeing the animals and avoiding the “snakes, lizards, and dark places.” Imagine my surprise when you asked me to see the lizard recently. All on your own and you picked the Komodo Lizard of all things!

Can’t wait to think of what is going to happen next with you two…

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

Grandpa is going to start being more consistent. Once a week. That’s how frequent I will be with our blog posts. Once a week.

The reason I put a time frequency on the blog is a simple fact. Soon a little sister is going to show up and I will be waxing eloquent about her, frequently. So, Kaylee and Kaylee’s sister…Can’t wait…

Right now, I am enjoying Kaylee present. You are growing mentally, physically, and spiritually daily. You are especially focused when it comes to puzzles and people.

Language, of course, is the the most fun of all. Whether it is you speaking new phrases or me teaching new words, we are having a blast!

I especially love how you told me not to eat until we prayed first…

Kaylee, you are a delight to be sharing life with…Thank you, Lord…Let’s see what comes up tomorrow…

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

How excited we all are that you are going to be a big sister. God gives grandpas unlimited love and so I won’t run out of love when I love two of you. The best thing is, God gives you unlimited love too, and so you are going to have a wonderful life ahead bringing and receiving joy with someone so close. Your mommy and daddy and the rest of us already know this, and your sister will, too!

Kaylee, when you bless Grandpa, you put your hands on my head. When I ask you to bless your sister, you put you hands on mommy’s tummy!

Keep blessing away!

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

We have been having wonderful times together. Your Great Grandpa and Great Grandpa Lindgren came out and shared Easter with us. We went to the Science museum to see the Dead Sea Scrolls. You were a trooper that day. You got to eat ice cream with your Mommy and that is a rare treat for you.

Easter Sunday you came up to hear the children’s message and you made Grandpa laugh. Here is what happened-

Oh, well, I keep getting plenty of hugs from you anyway!

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

What the heck are you saying? Your mommy sent me a video of you saying, “Appo du du.” She said you kept on saying it. Sure enough, when you came over this morning, you looked at me smiled and said, “Appo du du.”

We haven’t figured out what you are trying to say, but you seem to enjoy it.

Maybe you are just saying, “My, but isn’t my Grandpa handsome.”

Appo du du to you,

Grandpa
