Grandpa Diary #55

Dear Kaylee,

This is a fun time in your life when you get to try all different kinds of food. There are some foods that are just like when I was a baby. Like apple sauce and tiny pieces of chicken. Then there are the different foods that you eat that I didn’t have when I was a baby. Yogurt, and puffs, for instance. We had puffed cereal we would eat later, but they were too hard to swallow for a baby. Your puffs melt in your mouth. You even have yogurt puffs!

Another thing that is different is your mommy and daddy are careful that your food is really healthy. Take a Popsicle, for instance. Ours were iced fruit flavor sugar on a stick. Yours are real iced fruit juice and vegetable mix on a stick.

But, one thing you and Grandpa eat together is a peanut butter sandwich. I used to eat peanut butter toast every morning with my daddy, your Great Grandpa Hanson. Now I eat eat this with you, because you take bites of mine. And you had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with me, too, at the preschool Mother’s Day brunch. Don’t tell my friend Kate Stewart about that, though. She calls them, “Fat and Sugar”sandwiches.

Sorry, Miss Kate!

Love,
Grandpa

David's GradIMG_2799

Dear Kaylee,

We sure had fun with you on Friday as you and your mommy and daddy joined the rest of us as we watched your Uncle David graduate from college. It was very exciting to see him finish this leg in his life journey, and to have his niece there to watch!

Uncle David received a very big award and so he got to sit on the stage right behind the podium where the speakers gave their speeches. I’m glad he behaved himself, because if he didn’t everyone would know…

You see, we were in the San Diego State Viejas Arena where Grandpa attended some basketball games with Uncle David. There were thousands of people and we were sitting way high up, but the whole arena could watch Uncle David time and again for almost three hours because he was on the jumbo screens above the court during the entire ceremony!

Kaylee, you loved the whole event. You were our little “pass around pack.” Between Daddy, Mommy, Nana, Grandpa, and Uncle Greg, you kept us entertained. And you also made sure you smiled a lot at the people sitting behind us.

Then when we went out to eat later, Uncle David got to hold you, too. What a great day for all of us!

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

Nana and Grandpa are back from our trip to Israel and Rome. It was a wonderful experience, except for missing our little Kaylee. Well, we did get to talk to you and videochat so you still saw us and heard us. It’s way better, though, being able to hug you and play with you back home now.

You are 10 months old! And you are trying so hard to walk. It is so much fun watching that. You are very, very close…Another milestone is happening right now, too. You know who mama and daddy are if you see them. I wish the other people you would know are Nana and Grandpa, but not yet. There is one other creature you do know, however, and besides “mamamamama” and “dadadadad,” you do “talk” to him. I am referring to our dog, Zeus!

Zeus loves when you come over. He gets so excited and he lets you climb over him, hug him, tug on his ears, Zeus is always close by to protect you. Sure enough, when we say, “Where’s the doggy?” you look right at Zeus and you say, “Daw,” “Daw.” So, other than “mama” and “dada,” your first word is officially “dog.” For technical accuracy, we may have to hear that “G” at the end, but I think “Daw” qualifies…Now let’s keep practicing-

“Grandpa.” “Grandpa.”

Love,
Grandpa
