Grandpa Diary #61

Mom's here!

Dear Kaylee,

You are growing up quick! Your walking is getting you to a lot of places and it is so much fun watching you try to pick up a book and another book or a toy and stay balanced, all at the same time. You are able to bend all the way down and accomplish this without falling over. Grandpa, with his knees, is, of course, jealous. What I want to know, however, is why you always want to carry two things around at the same time?

When you were just crawling, you would grab two items in your hands and crawl that way. Something about keeping both of your hands involved. When you came over this week to visit we went for a walk, but I still put you in the stroller and did the walking for us. It was fun to get back to something we enjoy so much during the school year when you are here.

The highlight of our walk is your mommy returning from an appointment and driving up along side of us. She calls you out her window and you have the biggest smile. Walking with Grandpa is great, but it is nothing like the voice of mom…

Love,
Grandpa

First Birthday Cake!

Dear Kaylee,

The big day is here! We all had so fun at your house. Your daddy grilled Shesh Kebob, and your mommy made cupcakes and a special cake for you. O, O, the frosting has your first sugar. You’ll be climbing the walls now, for sure…

Well, one year with my little princess of the Loving King who adores you more than all of us put together, another year coming up!

Love,
Grandpa

Watching the horses in the 4th of July Parade

Watching the horses in the 4th of July Parade

Dear Kaylee,

Well, today is your one year birthday! We are so excited for you and are going to be with you at your party this afternoon. In the meantime, we had a great week last week and so I had to show a couple of highlights.

On the Fourth of July we went to the parade by your house. There were horses, cowboys, marching bands, dancers, a lot of classic cars, and even some little donkeys. We had so much fun watching the parade together, with your mommy, daddy, Uncle David, and your mommy’s friend Mary, and her kids. You enjoyed everything.

Then a couple of days ago, your mommy went to the dentist. I came along to watch you. We had fun just sitting and reading, but I decided to take you out in the hallway. It was long and carpeted and so a great place for you to practice your walking. This ended up being hilarious because you scooted along the wall instead.

I will have plenty to report about your birthday party, so I will finish for now.

Love,
Grandpa

Grandpa Diary #58

Dear Kaylee,

Finally, Grandpa got his hugs and kisses after not being with you for so long. I saw you every day on FaceTime, but, of course “live” Kaylee is best!

I was visiting your Great Grandma and Grandpa Hanson in Minnesota. Grandma just moved to a place close to her house where they take care of people who can't remember stuff. But, she sure remembered me. Great Grandpa and I visited her twice every day. Great Grandma would hug me and kiss me, just like I do with you. She would say,

“My dudie. My dudie. I love you…”

“Dude” is my nickname, like when I call you “Kaylee Q,” or “Sweet, Sweet.”

Your Great Grandma liked to see you on FaceTime, too. She would laugh and say, “Awww, my baby.” The place where she lives has lifelike dolls that the residents like to hold and play with. It reminds them of their babies long ago. So, Great Grandma held a baby doll while she looked at you on the iPad. Somehow it seemed to work:)

Great Grandpa loved to see you, too. He said this was the toughest year of his life taking care of Great Grandma at home. Even with nurses coming over, it got to be too hard. Great Grandma wasn't eating anymore. Great Grandpa is happy now, because Great Grandma is eating and feeling better. Even though this was his hardest year, he says you are the best thing to happen to him the whole year.

We all agree!

Love,

Grandpa
