Dear Kaylee,

I am so excited you have started Preschooll! What a great chance for you to meet new friends and also you get to learn even more about Jesus. Mommy and daddy are partnering with the Christ Lutheran staff to make sure you know how much you are loved by your Savior.

My big girl is ready to grow and grow socially, mentally, and spiritually, complementing what your awesome mommy and daddy and yes, the rest of us, are investing in you.

We are so proud of our wonderful Kaylee….

Love,

Grandpa

PS: You look like you are going into Kindergarten! At two years old why does this happen?

Dear Kaylee,

Nana and Grandpa just got back from Maui. We were gone for 12 days but it seemed like 100 without being with you! Facetime works O.K. except you always want to hold it yourself and you turn off all the buttons!

Nana and I saw many turtles which are your favorites. One of your first words. We swam in the ocean, ate good food, and looked for your purple bucket. You know, the one you lost at Pt. Dune Beach in the waves? Grandpa told you the purple bucket would float over to Maui and we would get it when we were there, but we haven’t found it yet. We’ll keep looking next time we are there.

You sure are getting excited to see your new baby sister! Your mommy is too. She is carrying your baby sister everywhere, and she is heavy. When mommy is carrying you, too, she is carrying two daughters at the same time. Now that is a lot of love!

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

Now that your mommy is back to teaching, Grandpa Day is on again! We get to have our various routines to fill our fun days with the joy of being together. Whether it is park or beach or zoo or mall time when it is hot out, we are always playing. Here is why.

Play is the way that children learn. It is an important part of your life. You play at home with mommy and daddy. Then you play with the rest of us when we are together. Even little things that you do are exciting and help you learn. Like how exciting it is to ride on the carousal at the mall.

The last time you took a ride, you decided to do a commentary. And a good one at that…

Love,
Grandpa

Grandpa Diary #80

Dear Kaylee,

Grandpa is going to start being more consistent. Once a week. That’s how frequent I will be with our blog posts. Once a week.

The reason I put a time frequency on the blog is a simple fact. Soon a little sister is going to show up and I will be waxing eloquent about her, frequently. So, Kaylee and Kaylee’s sister…Can’t wait…

Right now, I am enjoying Kaylee present. You are growing mentally, physically, and spiritually daily. You are especially focused when it comes to puzzles and people.

Language, of course, is the the most fun of all. Whether it is you speaking new phrases or me teaching new words, we are having a blast!

I especially love how you told me not to eat until we prayed first…

Kaylee, you are a delight to be sharing life with…Thank you, Lord…Let’s see what comes up tomorrow…

Love,
Grandpa

Dear Kaylee,

How excited we all are that you are going to be a big sister. God gives grandpas unlimited love and so I won’t run out of love when I love two of you. The best thing is, God gives you unlimited love too, and so you are going to have a wonderful life ahead bringing and receiving joy with someone so close. Your mommy and daddy and the rest of us already know this, and your sister will, too!

Kaylee, when you bless Grandpa, you put your hands on my head. When I ask you to bless your sister, you put you hands on mommy’s tummy!

Keep blessing away!

Love,
Grandpa

Beaching it!

Beaching it!

Dear Kaylee,

You know how much you love birds. We go outside early in the morning so you can hear them say good morning. There are mainly sparrows and mourning doves. You know the difference between them, though when you mimic the mourning dove you sound like you are doing an owl! There is even a mourning dove Mommy in a nest in the tree in front of our house sitting on her eggs, waiting for them to hatch.

Today, I was golfing with my friend, Scott, when we saw a bird flapping around in a sand trap, but not able to fly out. On closer look, the bird had a kite string caught in her wing. Lot’s of string! You and I like to fly a kite so you know what that is.

Remember when we were at the beach and that seagull swooped down and stole you string cheese out of your hand? Knocked you over! We both got mad at that bird and we were also a bit afraid.

I like birds but I don’t like to touch them. But, I remembered Jesus likes birds and so I better help the sparrow in the sand. I was able to step on the string so she couldn’t away from me and then I grabbed her softly with one hand, while she struggled and tried to bite me!

I kind of petted her with my other hand and said, “We are both God’s creatures and I am here to help you,” and guess what Kaylee? The bird relaxed and didn’t move while I untied the string that had gotten caught in her wings. It worked, and I let her go, and she flew right into the tree and started chirping.

“Thanks for the help, Kaylee’s grandpa!”

Love,
Grandpa
